So, I’ve been watching Lord of the Rings again, the first half of the second movie to be exact, and I must say. Now I understand why people are so obsessed with these movies. As far as fantasy goes these movies are an amazing experience. I honestly find it hard to believe these movies were made so long ago. The movie creates a grand experience in terms of the environments the viewer sees, and it is hard to believe that nearly all of these environments are real life locations, primarily in New Zealand. Through use of these environments they create a grand fantasy world that is believable due to how real everything is (you know, outside the orcs, elves, dwarves, and ents). And so far I will say I am impressed. Even if there have been minor (and some major) changes so far, there have been none that really left me angry. The core essence of the books is there, the grand journey of LotR is present in these movies, and though they can be slow at times, they always deliver.
I think I’ve found one of my favorite movie series, and this might actually top Harry Potter for favorite book to movie adaptations. Expect a post on The Two Towers next week when I finish it.
